Last week, Nicole Bell announced her departure from the Cambia Grove. It’s impossible to overestimate how her vision as a co-founder and her work as executive director since the Cambia Grove opened in March of 2015 has contributed to the success of the space.
She leaves behind a team that includes members instrumental to the growth of the space since it opened, as well as several new team members poised to fulfill the promise the space represents to the health care innovation community, here in the Pacific Northwest and nationally.
As interim executive director, I am optimistic that we can continue the work that Nicole and the other team members began 28 months ago. The space is still in its infancy in many ways, but the focus will be to build on what has worked and amplify the catalytic impact of the space on health care transformation—through programming, collaboration with other key stakeholders in the region, and by convening a combination of unlikely and likely partners to maximum effect.
The team at the Cambia Grove—which I have been a part of since April and which I have also worked closely with in my previous role as a member of the Advisory Panel—has built an incredible, engaged community that is ready for action. We’ll continue to build on this, working to improve the system’s sustainability and increase the focus on the needs of individuals and their families, because of how important this work is to the future of our health care system.
There’s an African proverb I have referenced several times already with the team: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” That spirit has been the driving force behind so much of what we have accomplished at the Cambia Grove, and there is no reason that it will be any different as we embark on a formal search for a permanent executive director.
I look forward to working with you all on this transformational mission in the coming months as interim executive director.
