Impactful Innovation Stage (Click Here for Details)
Problem (i.e. barrier, issue, complication, etc.) being solved for the end user
Heart failure hospitalization occurs 4 million times per year (worldwide) and 90% of those cases are caused by uncontrolled fluid retention. Which means management of fluid retention is an enormous unmet need.

The primary problem is heart failure patients do not have a simple, easy way to monitor fluid retention.

The conventional method of monitoring that is recommended for heart failure patients is to watch for sudden weight gain of: “two or more pounds in one day, or more than five pounds in one week.” This method of monitoring is subject to patient errors, physical/mobility limitations, forgetfulness, indifference, vision problems, and a lack of reliable record keeping.

The technical challenges associated with remote patient monitoring (RPM) for fluid retention are also significant. In order for an RPM device to accurately measure fluid retention over extended periods of time, the device must account for: patient activity, changes in environmental conditions, and long-term patient comfort.
Idea/solution to the problem, if applicable
The BodiGuide Anklet continuously monitors ankle swelling and provides simple, timely notifications when fluid retention requires action. The anklet measures changes in ankle size, while simultaneously adjusting for patient activity, environmental conditions; all while ensuring long-term comfort for the patient.

The BodiGuide Anklet allows for proactive management of fluid retention through accurate monitoring and improved self-care. The product enables early intervention and prevents hospitalizations.
