Data resources included in this directory are required to meet the following criteria:

  1. the data could be used to improve the health of individuals or populations,
  2. the data is currently accessible to health care changemakers,
  3. the steps to gain access are clear.

FHCQ Care Outcome Assessment Programs

There are four active Care Outcomes Assessment Programs (COAP) built around their respective clinical registries that record a significant percentage of all procedures in Washington State.

Almost every hospital in the state participates in one or more of our programs:

Cardiac COAP - for cardiac procedures (100%)
Spine COAP - for spine surgery (70%)
Surgical COAP - for bariatric and bowel surgery (30%)
OB COAP - for obstetrical care (35%)

Clinic Notes

Nearly 500,000 reports from the pathology source system, including a wide variety of surgical pathologies, cytology, bone marrow aspirates, lumbar punctures, and cytogenetics testing. This also includes slide reviews for any patients being treated at the Fred Hutch/UW Cancer Consortium who were originally diagnosed elsewhere.

3.8 million diagnostic/imaging reports, including X-Rays, Mammographies, CT’s, MRI’s, and Ultrasound guided procedures. There are also narrative texts from the clinical note repository. Note types include medical oncology progress notes, discharge summaries, nursing notes, long term follow up, etc.

Global Burden of Disease (GBD)

IHME strives to improve the health of the world's populations by making available the highest-quality information on population health, its determinants, and the performance of health systems. Transparency is one of IHME's core principles and we are working to help expand access to the raw data that we use in our evaluations.

IHME Client Services is a social enterprise within the University of Washington, which promotes and licenses IHME's population health data to private sector organizations.

All Payer All Claims Program

The Oregon All Payer All Claims Database (APAC) is a large database that houses administrative health care data for Oregon's insured populations. It includes medical and pharmacy claims, enrollment data, premium information, and provider information for Oregonians who are insured through commercial insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. Data files are received on a rolling 12 month basis from the date incurred. Established in 2009, APAC has data for analysis 2011- to the current completed year.

Medicare FFS Data

Medicare FFS claims: There are 830,000 covered in the WA Medicare data and 190,000 lives covered in the ID Medicare data. Data are available for each institutional (in-patient) and non-institutional (out-patient) claim type, which each record being a claim. Some of the information contained within these utilization files includes:
* Procedure/diagnosis/medication fill information
* Dates of service
* Revenue center detail
* Payment and charge amounts
* Beneficiary demographic information

Community Checkup Results / Clinic Rosters

The Alliance makes available data files containing detailed quality results from Community Checkup reports and/or clinic/physician rosters for Washington state.

Healthy Youth Survey (HYS)

The Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) is administered in the fall of even years to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 in WA. The survey contains questions about a wide variety of adolescent health and behavior topics, from substance use to bullying to water safety to suicidal ideation. Schools choose whether to register for the survey. Each year a state sample is taken, as are county samples for the larger counties. The state sample is used when comparing state-level estimates from year to year.

Washington State All-Payer Claims Database (WA-APCD)

The WA-APCD is the state's most complete source of health and dental insurance data. It contains claims from more than 30 commercial health care payers; the Medicaid program, including its five managed care plans; and Medicare Advantage, the HMO products for Medicare members. The WA-APCD has historical claims data starting in 2013, and each calendar quarter, the most current claims data are added to the all-payer dataset. Data from Washington's workers' compensation program are also available.
