Global Alzheimer's Association Interactive Network (GAAIN)
The Global Alzheimer's Association Interactive Network (GAAIN) is advancing research into the causes, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases by connecting researchers with data. The GAAIN platform unites a diverse and geographically distributed network of data partners using powerful and intuitive tools designed to foster data exploration, cohort discovery, preliminary analysis, collaboration, and sharing throughout the scientific community.

GAAIN
GAAIN's powerful interactive tools allow users to explore data and create cohorts across multiple data sources and run immediate preliminary analysis while upholding the data control, security, and privacy policies of data owners. These tools are freely accessible to all at www.gaaindata.org. A wide and vastly varying range of metadata from nearly 500,000 subjects can be explored using these tools. Attributes include demographics, assessments, health factors, biologicals, imaging and genetics.

GAAIN provides a global infrastructure for cooperative research by linking data repositories from our Data Partners that contain thousands of subjects as well as thousands of variables into a virtual data sharing community. The Interrogator, GAAIN's powerful discovery and exploration tool, allows users to discover new and relevant data, combine it across datasets, and run analyses. The Cohort Scout allows researchers to find, save and share data searches across approximately 23,000 attributes shared by our Data Partners. With these tools, users are able to sift through massive amounts of data and find variables of interest without the onerous task of acquiring, processing, and analyzing spreadsheets with clunky tools (and no guarantees of their research value). They are able to investigate questions and run analyses immediately, promoting faster discovery and new collaborations.
While these tools give users insight into the data, the analysis results are not suitable for publication. Once users have discovered potential collaborators and datasets of interest, they need to contact our Data Partners to retrieve the original datasets to run in-depth analyses suitable for publication.

Steps Required to Obtain Data
The GAAIN tools are available for anyone to use at www.gaaindata.org. These give researchers a handle on what collaborations and datasets fit their interests. Once these have been identified, raw datasets must be obtained directly from our Data Partners (we provide methods for contacting them on the platform).
