On November 18, Mardia Shands, Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer for Swedish, will join Cambia Grove for a Roundtable Discussion. The conversation will cover how change can be catalyzed within a health system, knowing when to turn inward versus outward for input and the importance of investing in communities to best understand needs. This roundtable will equip attendees with evidence-informed practices to engage colleagues and advance health equity initiatives.
Who should attend? Cambia Grove’s roundtables welcome any interested stakeholder to participate. This event is geared toward any stakeholders working to improve access to health care and health outcomes.
About Our Roundtables:
Roundtables are part of our regular (free to all) programming where we connect experts from a wide array of perspectives relevant to health innovators. These gatherings are 90-minute conversations are capped to roughly 15 participants to ensure open dialogues that dive deep into subject matter while also making meaningful connections amongst participants.
The conversation is recorded and shared with the community at large.

BIO: Mardia A. Shands is a multi-disciplinary Human Resources leader with extensive experience in social impact, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and workforce development across multiple industries including healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, and IT. Her career has spanned from multi-national global corporations to small not-for-profits across North America and Africa.
She is an Aspen Institute Job Quality Fellow and is also a Venue Magazine 2019 Woman of Influence. She is a sought-after speaker on the topics of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Workforce Development. She is a member of Class 39 of Leadership Cincinnati, has been recognized by the Cincinnati Business Courier as a Forty Under 40 business leader and the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati as a Rising Star. Ms. Shands serves on the Board of Directors for the YWCA. She is the immediate past chair of the Workforce Investment Board for Butler, Warren and Clermont Counties in the Greater Cincinnati region and she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she is an active member of the Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter.
Ms. Shands earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s degree in Labor and Employment Relations also from the University of Cincinnati. She holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources designation from the Human Resources Certification Institute and the Senior Certified Professional certificate from the Society of Human Resources Management.
