Series to the Summit: Paying for Health
206.332.5232 | 1800 9th Ave. Suite 250, Seattle | Drop In Mon-Fri 9am-5pm
The misalignment of payment and incentives is a tremendous barrier to innovating in health care. This has become more apparent as we consider the health needs of today and how we rebuild a health care system to be one that is more resilient. In order to unpack the depths of this topic, Cambia Grove is honored to present a three-part series of conversations leading up to Incentivizing Health: A Hackathon to Build Solutions for Better Health Outcomes (soon to be scheduled).
The Series to the Summit speakers hosted a 30 minute Slack chat after each event with Cambia Grove Members. If you have not joined the Cambia Grove membership and are interested in learning more, click here.
When: May 21, 2020, 9-10:15 AM PST
Part one of this three-part series brings together global health perspectives to examine the payment and incentive structures that other countries have deployed to deliver better health outcomes for individuals and populations. Questions will include: What are the success stories? Who paid and why were they incented to do so? How do other national health systems respond to crises? What are key takeaways from past and current experiences that we can use to rebuild the health care system?

Part two of this three-part series brings together provider and payer perspectives to examine the different ways our health care system works to improve the health of individuals and the population at large. Specifically, we will examine how payment and incentive structures impact health outcomes domestically. Questions will include: Where are the bright spots for good health outcomes and how is it financed? What are the biggest challenges? How was the U.S. designed to respond to health crisis and how has it actually worked? What are key takeaways from past and current experiences that we can use to rebuild the health care system?

When: June 16, 2020, 12:00-1:15 PM PST
Part three of this series will reflect upon the first two discussions and will explore what pieces we need to support to rebuild our health care system. Who needs to be at the table? What incentives need to align? What cultural barriers exist? What technical or workforce infrastructure needs to be addressed? All of these issues will be addressed as we lead into our final event – our Paying for Health Summit this fall.

Background: After extensive feedback from the health care innovation community, Cambia Grove took on payments and incentives as the second topic for our Solutions Lab. The Solutions Lab systematically breaks down barriers to innovation by convening stakeholders around high-priority health care topics, identifying specific challenges within those topics and then catalyze solutions that support system-wide transformation.
